Madison Legion Head Coach Dan Pavlue announced the initial roster for the 2012 Madison Legion squad on Friday, December 2nd. For the second straight season, the 2012 roster includes players from area powerhouse high school programs Madison LaFollette, Madison Edgewood, Verona and Sun Prairie. Also in 2012, the red, white and blue has added players from the Badger North's Portage Warriors. The initial roster features 17 players, 9 of which are returning for their second season in the Madison uniform. 6 of the 17 players graduated high school in 2011 and will be returning to the team after their first year of college. 11 of the 17 players are currently high school seniors who will graduate in the spring of 2012. Madison Captures Tri-State Tournament Championship with 4-3 Win over Norwood, IL
After going 3-1 in their first 4 games of the Tri-State Tournament, Madison Legion faced Norwood, IL in a rematch for the Tri-State Tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon. Norwood defeated Madison 5-0 on Saturday morning.
Madison sent Zach Furniss to the mound for his second start of the weekend, and he gave Madison a boost with his continued impressive pitching, going 6 innings, giving up just 3 runs on 6 hits and striking out 2 Norwood hitters. Taylor Carlson, Friday's second game starter, came into the game to pitch a scoreless 7th inning, striking out 1 Norwood hitter and earning his first save of the season. Furniss earned the win and improved to 2-1 on the season.
Offensively, Norwood struck first in the top of the 4th inning, pushing across a single run to take a 1-0 lead. Madison responded in the bottom of the 4th inning when Luke Yapp led off the inning with a walk, and Taylor Carlson doubled to bring Yapp across the plate to tie the game at 1-1. Madison took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning when Tony Grannis led off the inning with a double, Nick Zwieg laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Grannis to 3B, and Kody Parman brought home Grannis on a groundball to the Norwood shortstop. Down by 1 run, Norwood responded in the top of the 6th with two runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Luke Yapp led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Josh Hainzinger singled to score Yapp, and Ben Jennings doubled to right centerfield to bring home Hainzinger and give Madison a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. Madison shut the door in the bottom of the inning and earned a 4-3 victory over Norwood to capture the Tri-State Tournament championship.
With the win, Madison improved to 11-5 on the season, and will host Mauston on Tuesday, July 12th at 11:00 AM at the "Duck Pond" at Warner Park.

Madison sent Zach Furniss to the mound for his first start of the summer, and he did not disappoint. Furniss threw a 7-inning complete game, giving up just two runs on 5 hits, striking out 6 and walking 2 to earn the victory. With the win, Furniss improved to 1-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to a team second-best 2.96.
Madison got on the board first in the top of the 1st inning when Jack Reiland doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball, and was brought in on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Sam Abbott. The Shockers responded in the 3rd inning by adding two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead.
Madison added a single run to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the 4th when Taylor Carlson lead off the inning with a solo homerun to left field. Madison then added 3 more runs to take a 5-2 lead when Jack Reiland singled and Sam Abbott walked, and Luke Yapp singled to bring in Reiland. Taylor Carlson then picked up his 2nd RBI of the evening on a bases-loaded single which scored Abbott, and Yapp would score later in the inning on a bases-loaded hit by pitch courtesy of Chris Anderson. Madison added a single insurance run in the top of the 7th inning. Ben Jennings singled, and Josh Hainzinger entered the game at 1B as a courtesy runner. Kevin Cobb then singled to put Hainzinger on 2B, and was moved to 3B on a walk by Louie Ellis. Jack Reiland then pushed Hainzinger across the plate with a fielder's choice. Final score Madison 6, Watertown 2.
The second game of the day saw Madison take on Hartford. Madison sent Taylor Carlson to the mound, and he built off of his previous starts this summer with arguably his best pitching performance so far. Carlson pitched a 7-inning complete game, giving up 1 unearned run on just 4 hits while striking out 3 Hartford hitters and not allowing a walk. With the win, Carlson improved to a team-leading 4-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.56.
Offensively, Hartford struck first in the bottom of the 2nd inning, scoring a single unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. Madison got on the board in the top of the 4th inning when Sam Abbott and Luke Yapp both singled and advanced to 2B and 3B on a passed ball. Kevin Cobb then singled to bring in Yapp and Abbott.
Madison added 3 more runs in the top of the 5th inning to increase their lead to 5-1, and eventually added three more runs in the last two at bats to cruise to an 8-1 victory.
Madison then faced a tough Norwood, IL team on Saturday morning, and hung tough with them until the end of the game. Madison was powered by the pitching of Sam Wood, who pitched the first 6 innings scoreless until the Norwood bats started finding holes in the infield and eventually posted 5 runs in the 7th inning to take a 5-0 win.
In Saturday's night game, Madison took on Janesville for the chance to play in the Tri-State tournament championship game. Madison sent Chas Schuster to the mound, and he struggled in the early innings, giving up 6 runs in the first 5 innings, but Schuster found a "second-wind" and shut down Janesville the rest of the game en route to a win to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Janesville then added two more runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 5-1 lead. Madison cut the lead to 3 in the bottom of the 4th when Nick Zwieg grounded out the shortstop to score Josh Hainzinger. Janesville added a single run courtesy of a solo homerun to increase their lead back to 4 at 6-2. Madison added a single run in the bottom of the 5th to cut the lead back to 3 at 6-3. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Madison added 3 runs to tie the game at 6-6 couresty of singles by Josh Hainzinger and Nick Zwieg, and an RBI double by Kody Parman. Chris Anderson pushed across Madison's third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Madison and Janesville swapped scoreless innings in the 7th, and Madison also shut down Janesville in the top of the 8th. Madison immediately put pressure on the Janesville defense in the bottom of the 7th when Kody Parman tripled with one out. With the win, Madison advances to the Tri-State Tournament championship game on Sunday at 1PM in Watertown.

Madison Edges Sauk Prairie 7-5
Madison Legion used 6 different pitchers and played 15 different players in a 7-5 victory over Sauk Prairie on Wednesday evening at the "Tin Dome" in Sauk City.
Sam Wood earned the victory after starting the game and pitching 2.1 innings, giving up just one run on one hit. Chas Schuster earned the save after pitching the 7th inning, allowing one run on two hits.
Offensively, Madison tallied 7 runs on 10 hits, highlighted by a solo homerun by Zach Addamo in the 6th inning. Chris Anderson also added 2 hits and collected 4 RBI for Madison.
With the win, Madison improves to 7-4 on the season, and will take on Watertown, in Watertown on Friday for the first game of the Tri-State Tournament. AAA Legion Regional Pairings Announced; Madison Heading to Watertown Regional
The American Legion AAA Regional Tournament pairings were announced on Tuesday, July 5th, and Madison was placed in the Watertown, WI Regional along with Watertown, Oconomowoc, Hartford, Fond du Lac and La Crosse.
Legion Regional Tournaments begin on July 20th. Winners of the Regionals will advance to the state tournament held at Pohlman Field at Beloit. Game times and regional brackets will be announced at a later date.

Madison Falls Just Short at Oconomowoc
Madison Legion traveled to Roosevelt Field in Oconomowoc on Friday evening to take on the "Five-O's". Madison sent Taylor Carlson to the mound for his 3rd start of the summer. Carlson pitched 6 strong innings, giving 3 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 2 Oconomowoc hitters in a no-decision.
After Madison was unable to score in the top of the first inning, Oconomowoc jumped out to a 3-0 lead when they posted 3 runs on 3 hits off of Carlson in the bottom of the first. Madison responded in the top of the 2nd inning when Chris Anderson led off the inning with a solo homerun, his first of the summer, to put Madison on the board. Madison added another single run in the top of the 3rd when Tony Grannis and advanced to third on a passed ball, and Taylor Carlson grounded out to second base to bring Grannis home.

Oconomowoc loaded the bases with no outs to start the bottom of the 7th and pushed across two runs to tie the game at 7-7. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Madison pitcher Zach Furniss recorded two straight outs without allowing the winning run to score. After a Furniss strikeout for the 2nd out, an Oconomowoc hitter put a great swing on a good pitch by Furniss which fell for a single to give Oconomowoc the 8-7 victory.
With the loss, Madison drops to 6-4 on the season. Madison will be back in action after the 4th of July weekend when they head to the "Tin Dome" in Sauk City for a 5:30 pm game vs. Sauk Prairie on Wednesday, July 6th.

Madison Holds Off Burlington Rally to Take 5-4 Win
Madison headed to Burlington on Wednesday evening for a single game with the Burlington Diablos. Madison sent Chas Schuster to the mound for his third start of the summer, and he built upon his previous two starts, going the distance for his third win of the summer to improve to 3-0 on the season. Schuster pitched 7.0 innings, gave up 4 earned runs, struck out 6 Burlington hitters and walked two.
Madison took the lead in the top of the 1st inning when Nick Zwieg was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and was brought home on an error by the shortstop on a ball hit by Jack Reiland. Burlington took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with two runs of their own.
