Madison Legion Wins Nail-Biter over Lake Forest, IL

Madison Legion was back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on Lake Forest, IL in the Andy Smith Memorial Tournament in Kenosha, WI. Madison took an early lead in the top of the 1st when Sam Abbott singled and was brought in on a single by Kevin Cobb. Lake Forest responded in the bottom of the inning with a single run, tying the game at 1 a piece.

Madison added another single run in the top of the 2nd inning when Chris Anderson singled and Kody Parman followed with a double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. With two outs, Nick Zwieg singled and brought in Anderson to give Madison a 2-1 lead. Lake Forest responded once again in the bottom half of the inning when their leadoff hitter blasted a 2-run homer to give Lake Forest a 3-2 lead after 2 innings.

Madison responded in the top of the 3rd inning when Kevin Cobb and Jack Reiland singled with 1 out, and Chris Anderson brought in Cobb and Reiland to give Madison a 4-3 lead. Madison shut down Lake Forest in the bottom of the 3rd, and added another 2 runs in the top of 4th inning on the power of two fielder's choices and a single from Luke Yapp. Lake Forest responded in the 5th inning with 3 runs of their own to tie the game at 6 a piece. Madison and Lake Forest swapped scoreless innings in the sixth to enter the last inning with a tie game.

Madison took the lead in the top of the 7th inning when Kody Parman doubled for the second time in the game, and was brought in on a double from Zach Addamo. '11 Madison LaFollette graduate Chaz Mohr pitched the last 2.1 innings of the game, allowing no runs on just 2 hits, including a scoreless 7th inning to secure a 7-6 victory for Madison. Mohr earned the victory and moved to 1-0 on the season.

Madison Edgewood's Kevin Cobb started on the mound for Madison and pitched very well, giving up 3 earned runs in 4.0 innings of work, allowing just 4 hits, striking out 2 and allowing no walks.

Madison was led offensively by the bats of Kevin Cobb, Jack Reiland, Chris Anderson, Kody Parman, and Zach Addamo who each collected two hits a piece. Reiland and Addamo each collected two RBI as well. In all, Madison pounded out 7 runs on 13 hits in 36 official at bats and improved their team batting average to a solid .356.

With the win, Madison improved to 3-2 on the season and will face Baraboo in the 2nd place bracket matchup round at 9:00 AM on Sunday in Kenosha. If Madison defeats Baraboo, they will play a TBD opponent at 4:30 on Sunday. If they are defeated by Baraboo, they will play a TBD opponent at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
