Madison Legion Falls to Lake in the Hill, IL in Andy Smith Memorial opener

Madison Legion opened up the 2011 Andy Smith Memorial Tournament in Kenosha against Lake in the Hill, IL. Lake in the Hill proved to be too much for Madison as they took a 9-4 decision over the red, white and blue.

'11 Verona HS graduate Josh Hainzinger started for Madison, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 Lake in the Hills hitters along the way. '11 Edgewood HS graduate Sam Wood pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits.

Madison struck first in the top of the first inning after Tony Grannis singled, stole second base, and was brought in by a Nick Zwieg groundball. Madison added two runs in the 5th when Jack Reiland singled, stole second and scored on a passed ball. Chris Anderson walked, and advanced on two passed balls to score the second run of the inning. Madison added one more run in the top of the 7th when Kevin Cobb singled, stole second base, and scored on a throwing error.

Madison's 4 runs were not enough as Lake in the Hills posted 9 runs on their way to a 9-4 victory. With the loss, Madison drops to 2-2 on the season and will face Lake Forest, IL on Saturday 6/25 at 4:30pm.
